Daphne, 6 Months

Half a year old, dear baby! I love your smile, Daphne Frances.

Daphne Eats!

Daphne had her first "solid" food today. She had some rice cereal and some avocado. She seemed to like the cereal, but she really didn't care for the avocado. At all. She is very interested in her sippy cup. Big sister is, too. Here she is in all her messy, first-food glory. Our sweet Daphne Frances, growing up a little bit more, today.

Daphne's First Tooth!

Well, here they are! The obligitory, ridiculous pictures of Daphne's mouth on the day I discovered that her first tooth had broken through! She was very accomodating and I was able to get a couple of pictures of her new toothy grin. Well, at least her cute gummy grin, with one teeny bump! You can see it, really you can, if you look at the last SUPER blown up picture.

Here is a picture from today; now her little tooth is fully visible! Cutie patootie. She keeps sticking her tongue out with a very curious look on her face. I know she's discovered this new thing in her mouth!

Goodbye :(

Violet is three, and Violet has friends. It is very, very funny to watch three-year-olds have friends. It's funny when they don't understand each other. It's even funnier when they do. They're just learning how to behave in a socially appropriate manner, and they're not always very good at it. They are learning to be aware of others' opinions. They are learning to be aware of others' feelings. They are forgiving and empathetic. Sometimes they don't share very well, but sometimes they do. They bargain. They plan. They explain. They remember each other, and talk about their friends all the time. In short, three-year-old friends are very, very cute.

A lot of Violet's friends have been her friends for a long, long time. And this week, one of Violet's friends is moving to Northern California, which means that one of my friends is moving to Northern California. We said goodbye at a little pool playdate. We'll miss you Eunice, Lana, and Calista (and Peter!). 'Bye. *sniffle*

Lana: we will miss you!

Piper and Violet, ready to take a dip.

All three girls, posing as only three-year-olds can.

Budding Photographer

The girls were SO dang cute today, so of course I wanted a couple of pictures. Violet, however, prefers to be the photographer, not the subject. Here is some of her work:

Here's the picture she let me take when I promised to let her have my camera after:
<3 <3 <3

Daphne remains, however, happy to be the object of attention, any time!

Violet's first trip to the dentist

Violet *finally* had her first trip to the dentist. Thankfully, her teeth are in perfect condition. No cavities or soft spots, and she has great spacing. We'll just continue to brush, floss, and use fluoride mouthwash, and go for twice-yearly check-ups!

She loved sitting in the big chair. We went to our regular dentist (not pediatric), so she got to play grown up!

She was very brave; they even used the polisher!

Singin' in the Rain

Labor Day this year ended with warm, light showers... to much rejoicing by Violet.

Fantasy Land

While Daddy was drafting his (winning) Fantasy Football teams, the girls and I hung out with the Moreno Valley Lima clan over Labor Day weekend, including the newest addtion to MV... Grandma and Grandpa!
Ladies, start your engines! It's FANTASY FOOTBALL SEASON! (Claire and Violet in the mall playground.) I hope they didn't carjack some two-year-old. (They are BOLD together... ahem, Violet.)

Grandma and Grandpa with their newest accomplice.

All aboard!... (the train we thought went around in a circle, but instead took off down the length of the long mall... glad I climbed aboard!)Violet kept talking and talking about sleeping on "the little bed in Claire's room under Claire's bed!" She thought it was the coolest thing, ever. So did all of us parents, once they fell asleep! This was the first time they shared a room, and I see many happy holidays and summer vacations in their future. It makes me rethink getting a trundle instead of the lofted bed we were going to get for Violet for Christmas.Oh, and good night, Daphne. Who, being lonely, cuddled her foot.
